About the Cold Shop

Need to finish your glass artwork? GAK has one of most well-equipped cold shops in the region. Our 560-square-foot space has work spaces, a sink, and excellent lighting. We have a wet saw, large slurry grinder, wheel grinder, polisher, belt sander, two sandblasters, and a Dremel station. Whatever project you need to flatten, smooth or polish, we have the equipment you need.

Our 560-square-foot Cold Shop features:

Wet Belt Sander
Steinert Slurry Grinder with 36” wheel
Wheel Grinder with 24” grinding surface and multiple grinding disks
Husquvama Wet Saw with 15” saw blade
Dremel station with 2 dremels and multiple bits
Polisher
Various size grit
Two Sandblasting Cabinets with grit

Rent the Cold Shop

In order to rent the Cold Shop, you must be a current member of Glass Art Kalamazoo. Purchase a membership here. You must also have prior approval from the Studio Manager. To contact the studio manager, please email [email protected]. There is a half-hour minimum to rent the Cold Shop. You must supply your own assistant, if desired. You can bring up to 1 additional person for your rental slot. Please review our complete policies and procedures before renting the Cold Shop.

How Do I Become A Renter In The Cold Shop?

Interested in renting our Cold Shop? If you are an experienced glass artist, you must complete a 2-hour Introduction to Cold Working Workshop to rent the studio. If you are not an experienced glass artist, you must first complete all required Essentials classes in a chosen studio and then complete the 2-hour Introduction to Cold Working Workshop to rent the Cold Shop.
