Glass Blowing Classes

This is where we work with glass in its hottest form as molten glass. Our glass furnace, containing a crucible full of liquid glass, is located in the Hot Shop. In these classes, you will blow and/or sculpt the glass to make objects. You will use the tools located at the gaffer bench to manipulate the glass as you create. Minimum age to take a glass blowing class is 12 years old. Children under 14 years of age are required to be accompanied by an adult.

Torch Working Classes

Torch Working is the art of using a bench mounted torch to heat glass to a molten state. It can then be manipulated/shaped into a variety of objects such as beads, marbles, pendants, pipes, stemware, complex sculpture or just about anything you can imagine. Torch Working is a great option for creative self-directed individuals who are interested in working with hot glass without the the extreme heat, physical demands and financial costs of the hot shop. Minimum age to take a torch working class is 12 years old. Children under 14 years of age are required to be accompanied by an adult. Current Torch Working classes include:

(making beads out of glass rods)

(making objects out of borosilicate glass rods like pendants, marbles and sculptures)

Kiln Fusing Classes

These classes involve a variety of techniques with cold sheets of fusible glass. Using special tools, you will cut shapes and designs to place on your clear glass base. You may also use crushed glass, stringers, and powders to create unusual effects in your piece. Your final project will be melted together in our kilns and possibly slumped to create your masterpiece. Minimum age to take a “Make It” or “Workshop” kiln fusing class is 12 years old, a “Kids Create” class is 8 years old, and a “Walk-In Family Fun Day” is open to all ages. Children under 14 years of age are required to be accompanied by an adult.

Cold Working Classes

Many of the projects created in our studios need to be finished in the Cold Shop. Using grinders, polishers, sand blasters, and saws, you will polish and finish your glass project. Classes in the Cold Shop will rely on practice “blanks” or objects created in other studios to be manipulated and polished. Minimum age to take a cold working class is 14 years of age.
