Ignite – your own passion for glass art.
Each year, Glass Art Kalamazoo teaches over 2,000 students how to create glass art. As the area’s only nonprofit glass art education center, Glass Art Kalamazoo’s mission is to enrich the community by creating exceptional experiences in glass art. Our community-based arts center believes that art should be accessible to everyone and that having glass art in our community makes us unique. We welcome everyone into our studios to try one of our glass classes.
Encourage – new artists to follow their dream.
Each year, Glass Art Kalamazoo invites 4-6 glass artists from around the nation to teach or create glass art at our studios. One of our visiting artist programs, the Emerging Artist in Residence, encourages newly graduated glass artists to begin their art career. This two month residency internship allows the artist to create a body of work, showcase that work in our gallery, learn the inner workings of a glass studio, and hone their teaching skills in a variety of class settings.
Inspire – the next generation of artists.
Each year, Glass Art Kalamazoo hosts summer glass camp for 20 future artists. Kids from ages 10-17 try their hand at glass blowing, bead making, lamp working, and kiln fusing. Many of these kids have never considered glass as an art medium. Glass Art Kalamazoo provides scholarships to children that aren’t able to afford to attend camp but have an interest in glass art.
Journey – into healing and hope.
Each year, Glass Art Kalamazoo volunteer bead artist hand craft over 3,000 glass beads for children struggling with cancer or blood disorders. Each unique bead symbolizes a procedure or significant milestone in a child’s treatment journey. The beads become each child’s story of resilience, strength, and hope.
