Glass Art Kalamazoo is accepting applications for The emerging Artists Residency Summer 2018!
This residency is designed to feature recent graduates (BFA or MFA) and developing glass artists. This residency offers an opportunity for emerging artists to enter the work force; assisting production, developing programming, building/maintaining equipment, teaching classes, and operating as support staff for Glass Art Kalamazoo. Studios will also be available for the artist to develop their own body of work culminating in a dedicated show in our Reflections Gallery as well as a lecture at the end of their tenure.
Artists will be expected to complete an average of 20-25 hours in service to Glass Art Kalamazoo each week. This work can include duties ranging from teaching, production, studio maintenance, program direction, gallery oversight, or staff support. Additionally, resident artists will receive working space and at least 20 hours of studio time each week in order to develop their own work in preparation for the term ending exhibition. This year, a majority of service hours will be dedicated to a scheduled rebuild of the hot shop furnace.
Each resident will be asked to donate 2 pieces from their exhibition to Glass Art Kalamazoo at the end of residency; one will reside in GAK private collection and the other will be designated for auction.
